Jnana Ganga Outreach Mission In Odisha

Spreading spiritual education is a vision Bhagavan Sri Atmanandaji has worked on for many years. The goal is to give young children and teenagers the tools to handle peer pressure, pressure of study, social identity, suppressed fears, and so on. Material education should not be neglected, but it should be side by side with spiritual education, which brings an alternative solution to the problems of society. Early on, children should learn about the human system and practical yogic practices. They should learn some scriptures in a way that will open their consciousness to the higher side of life, which is beyond mind and senses. This will prevent problems like depression, frustration, hopelessness, and other emotional disturbances and help raise the consciousness of mankind by providing specific tools to aid the students when faced with challenging situations in life.

Recently, Bhagavan received a strong prompting to launch the project on a much larger scale. On 12 August, the Jnana Ganga Outreach Mission was officially launched at Satyachetana Sikhyashram in Balanga, Odisa. The summary of the announcement in the Odia Satya Chetana Spiritual Magazine explains a little of the purpose: “While materialistic education trains individuals to earn money and live luxurious lives, it does not teach them how to become truly good human beings. To become a complete and righteous person, moral, ethical, and above all, spiritual education is essential. Because today’s child is tomorrow’s citizen, if a child is shaped completely and positively from an early age, that child will undoubtedly contribute to nation-building in the future. The thoughts we instill in tender minds will not only shape their lives but also the society they live in.”

The initial goal of this project is to introduce spiritual education in at least ten schools in each district of Odisha. For this, Swamiji himself will travel to the various districts of Odisha and provide spiritual education directly to the students. He will be assisted by members of the Movement and others, who will also speak to the students. Local devotees and admirers from Odisha will join in this mission by approaching schools and educational institutions in their area to host these gatherings.

At the gathering at Balanga Sikhyashram, the children of standards 8 to 10 (age 14-17 years), along with all the teachers attended the gathering. The team members and Swamiji gave short addresses of spiritual knowledge and emphasized the uniqueness that lies within each human being. They transmitted their love, aspiration, vision and blessings. The audience was attentive and open to receive the transmissions.

In brief, he said:

What you are getting now in school is material education that will help you to secure a comfortable life by pursuing your career. But this will not make you full, complete. For that, you have to be established in satya chetana. Satya chetana is the harmonious integration of the material and the spiritual sides of life.

In the Vedic system, education consisted of both dimensions. They called it para vidya – the worldly, material knowledge, and apara vidya – the spiritual knowledge. Unless one possessed both dimensions, one cannot be called purna – whole, complete. You cannot be established in Satya Chetana if you do not have these two dimensions of vidya. If you have these two, you can experience your natural state, which is pure awareness.

Spiritual education will kindle the spark in you so that you aspire for and have the longing to achieve this state. One person who attains this can transmit it to a thousand others. Have faith in yourself that you are that pure awareness.

Make your understanding experiential by spending a few minutes in silent prayer each day.

My blessings to you all, My pranam
